What are Sensory Brain Breaks?

Differentiated learning is a framework for providing effective teaching to all students in a classroom regardless of difference in ability. If you are an educator, future teacher or even a mother then this workshop could be just the thing for you.

Differential Learning Workshop

Think!

* Are your students struggling to learn?

* Do you want to accelerate learning in your group?

* How do you improve the efficiency of students?

* Do you want to improve cognitive skills in your students?

* Do you want to keep them engaged in learning?

* Keep them “focused” and “on task”?

Learn!

Learn how to identify children who are having difficulty coordinating both sides of their bodies.

Did you know that children having such issues have problems with motor functions such as reading and writing and daily functional tasks such as dressing and tying shoes?

Brain breaks are an effective way for reforming the mental and physical state of the learners in your group, whether they are gifted, average or struggling.

Brain breaks stimulate neurological pathways and help both hemispheres of the brain work together.

So join us today with our expert, Dr. Uzma Raheem on Sensory Brain Breaks. Revive effective teaching through techniques that speed the learning process of your children or students.

Highly recommended for educators, mothers and future teachers.

What about the Moms?

It is all too easy to forget about the Carer, the person who is expected to keep it all together 24/7. For the first time, an event was arranged for mothers of children with special needs at the HOPE Center in April.  Moms were taken completely by surprise with the events of the day as they were pampered and indulged, and returned home feeling calmer and happier, ready to face a new day.

Between 9am-1pm, mothers were guided through a series of events which included counselling activities, group discussion and relaxation. The energy levels gradually increased over the morning, reaching a crescendo with a Zumba session. Thanks to generous sponsorship from local companies, the ladies went home with an ample goodie bag along with a sense of rejuvenation.

The schedule for the day had deliberately been kept secret so as to surprise the mothers, who came with open-minds and open hearts.

Uzma Raheem, The Center Director, said: “We hope this will be a first in a series of workshops for the parents. Our aim is to continue to provide psycho-education, boost morale and build support between the mothers.

Head of student affairs and counseling, Kim Lyon, said: “We did a pre- and post-test to see the change in the mothers’ moods.  The forms showed a significant increase in positive feelings, which was very rewarding for us.

“Every lady who attended said they would like to see more of such workshops, and we believe that these can make a big difference to their general well-being. It is exciting to be facilitating such programs here in Jeddah.”

If you were one of the moms present, we would love to hear your thoughts. Drop a quick comment to let us know. Or even if you were not there, what do you think of this initiative?

Silk Painting Workshop

Self-growth and self-improvement are important parts of life. For many of us, this slows down or even worse, comes to a halt once we leave formal education. But it doesn’t have to be this way. There are many unexplored avenues to seek out, and many new skills to acquire. Silk painting classes are catching on, and there are now instructors teaching this art to those who wish to expand their skill base.

Silk painting is the application of paints or dyes directly onto silk fabric using an exciting array of watercolour techniques.

Uzma Sabahat is one such lady who has been instructing in the art of silk painting  for the past eighteen years in her home country Pakistan. Now that she resides in Jeddah, she has begun giving workshops here.

Uzma’s silk painting.

Her next workshop is a 3-day event to be held on the 12th, 13th and 14th of May, 2013 from 9-11am. The cost is SR 350 for the entire 3-day course, including all materials and equipment.

Visit Uzma’s Facebook page to register.
